Biography

Dr Jane Buxton is a Professor and MPH practicum director in the School of Population and Public Health, where she also teaches and supervises Masters and PhD students. She worked in family practice in the UK for seven years before completing her Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialist training at UBC. Dr Buxton directs the second year undergraduate medical program public health course (DPAS 420) and works half time as a physician epidemiologist in hepatitis and bloodborne pathogens at the BC Centre for Disease Control. Her research involves participatory methods focusing on prevention, and reducing the harms, of illegal drug use; collaborating with people who use drugs to incorporate their perspectives into research, planning and policy development. She received 2013 Faculty of Medicine Killam Teaching Prize and 2013 BC Provincial Health Officer’s Award for Excellence in Public Health
