Biography
Babar Tasneem Shaikh is serving as Director Health & Built Environment at the Aga Khan Foundation-Pakistan and is responsible for health systems strengthening projects funded by USAID, DFATD, KfW, France, Italy and Norway. His current portfolio of Built Environment includes managing the projects pertaining to hazard mitigation and building of risk resilient water and sanitation schemes, resilient homes, shelters, and health facilities through capacity building and engagement of local communities, support organizations, and government departments. He has secured grants and fellowships secured from World Health Organization, Aga Khan Foundation, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and David & Lucile Packard Foundation. His flagship work on health seeking behaviors, social determinants and health services utilization has got a cutting edge in the field. His research work is extensively disseminated through more than 100 peer reviewed publications in both national and international indexed journals. Besides his articles, he has training manuals, research reports, position papers, monographs and book chapters on Health System of Pakistan on his credit. He established the first PhD program in Public health in Pakistan and has initiated the first peer reviewed journal of Public health in the country.
